Moscow and Ankara are planning to reach the turnover of $100 billion a year – RIA Novosti

Russia and Turkey after a crisis in the relationship expect to reach a trade turnover of $ 100 billion per year, concrete steps to achieve this will be discussed at the meetings of the presidents of the two countries at the meeting of the Russian-Turkish intergovernmental Commission (IGC), which will be held next week in Istanbul, told RIA Novosti the Minister of economy of Turkey Nihat Zeybekci.

Russia and Turkey are in the process of normalization of trade and economic relations after the crisis that arose after November 2015, the Turkish fighter jet shot down in Syria, the Russian bomber su-24.

“Russia and Turkey are the countries that are able to complement each other. What is not we have in Russia and Vice versa: what’s missing you – there are in Turkey. Our turnover before the crisis in relations between the two countries reached 38 billion dollars, and we set an important goal to reach $ 100 billion. I am sure that at the forthcoming meeting of the IGC we will be able to study the question of removal of many barriers in the way of our cooperation, and open new venues for the further development of relations. The IPC has a special significance in connection with be held on 10 October in Istanbul by the presidents of our countries to overcome the crisis in relations between Russia and Turkey,” said Zeybekci.

According to the Minister, for the Turkish side, it is very important to take with our Russian colleagues all necessary measures in order to bring relations between the two countries to the level that existed before the crisis, which began on 24 November 2015. Moscow and Ankara have set myself many goals to the IPC, in particular, expansion of cooperation in trade, investments, Contracting work, as well as removing barriers for business.

“We need to expand cooperation with Russian regions. Great attention will be paid to trade issues in the national currency, as well as cooperation in the banking and financial sector. In addition, of course, the most important topics for both countries is cooperation in energy and tourism. We believe that efforts should be made to increase tourist traffic in both directions, and in Istanbul we are going to discuss with the Russian side, what steps we can take,” said the Turkish Minister.

Another topic for a full discussion on the IPC, according to Zeybekci will be problems with road transport, specifically with registration of transit documents and visas for drivers.

“Cooperation in agriculture is also particularly important for Turkey and Russia. We face the task to remove existing barriers to trade in agricultural products, but there are other questions on this topic. I am sure that we will have the opportunity to discuss other topics of interest to our country, in particular, cooperation in the field of science, industry, environment, education and so on”, — said the Agency interlocutor.

He recalled that in recent years, Turkey is actively and fruitfully engaged in the protection of their interests and diversify its economic and trading partners, so in Ankara attach particular importance to the development of trade and economic relations with Russia, which is an important economic force in the region.

“We regard the development of relations with Russia as a possibility of finding the optimal tools in all possible areas of cooperation with the Russian side, and the chance for greater integration of our country in the regional and global economy. In this light, relations with Russia, especially in the areas of agriculture, services, investment and energy, are of particular importance and are of great benefit. In particular, we want to accelerate the beginning of the negotiation of the free trade agreement,” — said the Minister.

He reminded that on August 26, 2016 in Turkey, was established JSC “Fund management capital of Turkey” to ensure diversification of instruments on the capital markets to Finance infrastructure projects in the country, providing outsourcing and support of strategic large-scale investments.

“the Ninth of October we plan to sign with the Minister of economic development of Russia Alexei Ulyukayev during his visit to Turkey a joint statement, which will be announcing the establishment of the Turkish-Russian joint investment Fund with the purpose of financing joint investments in third countries. In addition, we plan to use the experience of the Russian Federation in terms of functioning of the Russian direct investment Fund,” added Zeybekci.
