Moscow. 27 Oct. INTERFAX.RU X5 Retail Group plans early next year to launch online sales on the basis of “Crossroads”.
“We are working on a project, an online supermarket, which we plan to launch early next year”, – said the General Director of a network of supermarkets “the Crossroads” Vladimir Sorokin at the Capital markets day the retailer on Thursday in Moscow. According to him, the supermarket, which will start online sales, and the site is ready. After the internal test, the company will bring the project to market, first in Moscow.
“We are launching online businesses, we believe that this will be an important element of the value proposition, we have great expectations on this occasion”, – said Sorokin.
X5 Retail Group (“Pyaterochka”, “Perekrestok”, “Karusel”) had previously tried to sell online food products (electronics, household, books, etc.). In 2012, X5 launched an online store E5 (orders delivered to the stores of the retailer), but at the end of 2014 has closed it, not finding an investor for this project. Former X5 CEO Stephan Ducharme said that the E5 model was similar to Amazon, but this model works better in the format of a separate company, because it is not associated with the main range. “The only connection was that our offline stores, served as the points of delivery of the goods E5. It was assumed that the man will come to take your book and also buy bread. But it was the wrong calculation,” explained Ducharme reasons for the failure of E5.
last year, the X5 has announced that it plans to launch a pilot project on online food sales on the basis of a network of supermarkets “the Crossroads”.
