Lavrov called the cause of withdrawal from the agreement with the US on nuclear research – RIA Novosti

VLADIVOSTOK, October 9 — RIA Novosti. Russia withdrew from the agreement with the USA on cooperation in scientific research and development in nuclear and energy sectors in response to the actual locking of the document from the States, said Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“Americans have rejected our scientists when they were requested at various conferences on this issue in the United States, said that the agreement is suspended. I once again reminded the U.S. Secretary of state John Kerry about it. He again protested that this issue is still not resolved. But he did not dare. So to pretend that the agreement works, consider pointless” – Lavrov said in an interview to the program “Sunday time” on channel one.

Lavrov said that initial contacts in the framework of the agreement was beneficial for both countries. “I’ve heard contrite comments from the U.S. Department of energy, and a scientific Council under the Ministry of energy. It’s very simple. Such contacts have been, they were made on the basis of this agreement. They were mutually beneficial. Scientists visited the laboratory each other, shared ideas, developments and, by and large, the process was mutually beneficial, and enrichment,” – said the Russian Minister.

As he noted, in April 2014, the U.S. Department of energy has sent us an official letter in which it was said that they had to stop all contact with the Russian Ministry of energy and the state Corporation “Rosatom” on this particular agreement.

“I asked Kerry if it’s because of resentment over Ukraine and Crimea, you know, the political leaders of the United States, the U.S. Department of energy has taken such a decision. He was surprised as had not heard and said that it is nonsense, what you need to know the measure and not to do any steps that will be clearly excessive. He assured me I would look into it, talk to the Minister of energy, President of the United States, if need be, and these contacts will be restored. A year has passed, they have not recovered,” – said Lavrov.
