Poroshenko explained why not introduce in Ukraine martial law – Росбалт.RU

Military situation in Ukraine has not been introduced to preserve the system of checks and balances, political competition, rights and freedoms of Ukrainian citizens. About the third anniversary of the revolution of dignity, said the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, reports “Еспресо.TV”.

“In the face of external aggression, I have not succumbed to the pressure and went for the imposition of martial law”, — he stressed.

Poroshenko noted that this step has significantly strengthened the powers of the President as Supreme commander. “But I was thinking not about himself but about the country and about the need to preserve and strengthen what is a sign of European culture, the system of checks and balances, political competition, rights and freedoms of Ukrainian citizens, especially freedom of speech,” — said the head of state.

the President of Ukraine added that the impressive is the progress in the development of civil society. “Volunteers, activists by their actions not only strengthen Ukrainians as a powerful political nation. They function as guardians of democracy, and the government at all levels is a powerful social control over themselves and adequately responds to key comments,” — he concluded.

As the press service of the head of state, Poroshenko was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine to the two participants of the Maidan Andrey Snitko and Sergey Tabal, who died for the independence and territorial integrity of Ukraine during the ATO.

Snitko took an active part in the protest movement, and then volunteered and served in the battalion of patrol service of militia of special purpose “Azov” of the Main Department of MIA of Ukraine. In July—August 2014, showed boldness and courage in the fighting for Mariupol. Died in August of the same year under Ilovaisk at the age of 18 years.

Since December 2013 eighteen-year-old Tabal (Callsign “North”) was an active participant of the revolution of Dignity. In the area of conducting ATO also volunteered. Fought at the Donetsk airport, was wounded, and died November 6, 2014, from the explosion of an artillery shell during the assault by militias control tower of the Donetsk airport.
