the Italian newspaper La Stampa published an article by Vladimir Putin “now is the time to trust Russia, a common front against terror.” The main provisions in it are translations of the speech of the President of Russia at the meeting of the discussion club “Valdai”. Then he focused the attention of experts and politicians from 35 countries on international issues, particularly the fight against terrorism.

In the article “It’s time to trust Russia, a common front against terror,” Vladimir Putin noted that in some structures formed during the cold war and is clearly outdated, such as NATO, in spite of everything, was not the adaptation to the new conditions. Mr. Putin also reminded of constantly sounding buzzwords like “Russian military threat”. He stressed that Russia has no intention of attacking anyone.

According to him, another “imaginary” hysteria is the fact that Russia allegedly interfered in the elections of the President of the United States. “Let’s be honest: does Anyone seriously think that Russia can somehow influence the choice of the American people? America is a great power, not a kind of “banana Republic”,”— leads edition of the words of the President of Russia.

At the same time, Vladimir Putin noted that Russia’s partners are not seeking to eliminate real threats. “We all see what is happening in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and many other countries. I wonder: where the results of the fight against terrorism and extremism? Overall, if we look at the world, at the regional level, in some areas, we have achieved certain results but the struggle against terrorism overall was not successful, and the threat continues to grow”,— concluded Mr. Putin.

A significant part of the speech was devoted to foreign policy and the main sources of conflict in international relations. Along with traditional criticism of the West, Vladimir Putin has promised “to be restrained, not show in their expressions of excessive aggressiveness”. The President’s speech revealed his desire to reduce tensions in the Syrian and Ukrainian conflicts and to find ways of normalizing relations with the West.
