On January 1, 2015 Lithuania switched to the euro, becoming the 19th country of the euro zone.
Thus, the country abandoned the national currency. Lithuanian litas lying in bank accounts, January 1 and will be automatically converted into euros free of charge.
To pay national currency in Lithuania will be up until January 15.
Earlier, Minister of Finance of Lithuania Rimantas Shadzhyus said , the country after the introduction of the euro will become more prominent in the world and will be able to make decisions about the future of the euro zone.
The European Parliament approved the accession of Lithuania to the euro zone in July 2014.
