The foreign ministers of the EU decided to extend for six months sanctions against Russia, which were introduced in March last year in connection with the annexation of the Crimea, as well as to expand the black list.
This was stated by EU High Representative on foreign and security policy Federica Mogherini after the meeting of EU foreign ministers.
“We have decided to extend the sanctions imposed in March until September of this year. We also decided to invite the Commission to prepare for a week further names of individuals and legal entities to be included in the black list “, – she said.
According to her, proposals for new names will be submitted within a week. The new list will be approved at the next meeting of EU foreign ministers to be held on February 9.
In addition, as noted Mogerini, it was decided to start the preparatory work on the “further measures that can be applied to self implementation of the Minsk Agreement “.
The head of the European Foreign Minister said that the ministers had” a very productive meeting “and thanked for their” responsible and constructive approach “.
As we have previously reported that Thursday Greece prepares to veto sanctions against Russia.
But after that the new Greek Finance Minister Yannis Varufakis rejected this suggestion.
Earlier, EU leaders said in a statement called on the Foreign Ministers to consider new sanctions against Russia during their meeting on January 29.
