“I guess it’s time to understand that the sanctions will soon expire or contractee. Anyway, in my job, me and the Minister of agriculture, Minister of the economy, most likely, must proceed from the fact that counter-sanctions will be lifted. Even if this does not happen, it will be another task for us,” said Shuvalov, speaking at the Gaidar forum discussion on competition.
Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged that the food market will sooner or later have to open.
Russia in August 2014 to restrict imports of products from countries that have imposed sanctions against it over the situation in Ukraine. The embargo covers meat, sausage, fish and seafood, vegetables, fruits, dairy products. Counter-sanctions changed the situation on the Russian market, stated Shuvalov. In retail sales were products of regional producers who would be unable to break into the market in a different situation. The habit of domestic suppliers to live in the conditions created by the restrictions is fraught with bad consequences, he said.
“Need a healthy element of competition in order that they (Russian suppliers) was stronger,” — said Deputy Prime Minister.
According to him, the government initially proposed to the President that such a renewal of the embargo — until the end of 2017. This was done in order to “create horizons, but not to create unnecessary expectations,” explained Igor Shuvalov.
