Moody’s will pay U.S. $ 900 million – Komsomolskaya Pravda

Nearly $ 90 million to pay Moody’s to the government of United States as a penalty for an incorrect forecast on mortgage securities before the crisis of 2007. About it reports a press-service of the Ministry of justice of the United States.

Moody’s ten years ago incorrectly entered ratings for mortgage-backed securities, knocking the confused investors.

“Investors relied on credit ratings agencies, which were considered, are objective and independent. Investors expected that Moody’s will follow its own standards,” – said the Deputy Minister of justice Benjamin Maiser.

according to “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”, after long negotiations, the American government and the Agency have reached an agreement under which Moody’s would pay about 437,5 million dollars by the Federal government, the remaining amount will be distributed between the budget of 21 state and County Colombia.
