In the first half of 2016, Russia increased the Gini coefficient – an indicator of property stratification. This is evidenced by the Rosstat data.
It is noted that in the first half of 2016 the Gini coefficient increased to 0.399 compared to 0.396 in the first half of last year. Prior to that, since the first half of 2013, the rate for three years was reduced. In the first quarter 2016 the Gini coefficient was 0,392.
Share of profits 20% of the poorest population in Russia declined in the first half by 0.1 p. P. (To 5.6%, compared with 5.7% a year earlier), while the share of income of 20% of the most affluent citizens increased by 0 2 n. n. (from 45,7% to 45,9%).
According to the director of the Institute of Labor and Insurance RANHiGS Alexander Safonov, rising inequality – this trend is the current crisis. “If in 2008 in the midst of crisis, the government took the decision to raise salaries to state employees by 30%, but now the real incomes decline due to lack of funds in the budget for social assistance”, – he explained RBC

The Gini coefficient ranges from 0 to 1, the closer the value to zero, the evenly distributed incomes.
