According to “Naftogaz of Ukraine”, against the background of increase of the volume flow of gas of “Gazprom” on gas pipeline OPAL, the daily gas transit through Ukraine decreased by 19%

the Increase in volumes of export of Gazprom’s gas pipeline OPAL, the gas pipeline connects Nord stream with the gas transmission networks of Central and Western Europe, led to a sharp reduction of gas transit through the territory of Ukraine, said in a statement the company “Naftogaz of Ukraine”.

According to experts, “Naftogaz”, after the reorientation of Gazprom to circumvent Ukraine route, the total volume of Russian gas supplies to Europe has not changed, however, Ukraine’s share was almost one fifth less.

“since December 22 … the volumes of gas transit through the Ukrainian gas transportation system in Slovakia has decreased from 148,9 million cubic meters to 120,8 million cubic meters per day (19 percent)”, — reads the statement of “Naftogaz”.

Experts of the Ukrainian company emphasizes that the volumes of pumping Russian gas via the OPAL for the same period increased from 57.1 80.5 million cubic meters million cubic meters (+41%).

“the Current situation gives reason to believe that Gazprom has taken concerted action to limit transit through the Ukrainian gas transportation system”, — reads the statement of “Naftogaz”.

the company stressed that the incident “casts doubt” the assertion that this “Gazprom” the European Commission’s permission to increase the pumping via OPAL will not lead to a decrease in the volume of transit of Russian gas through the territory of Ukraine.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Board “Naftogaz” Andrew KOBOLEV said that the increase in the flow of gas “Gazprom” OPAL “will contribute to the realization of Russia’s plans to destroy the Ukrainian gas transportation system as a competitor in the supply of gas to consumers in the EU.” Annual losses of Ukraine from the reduction of Russian gas transit COBOL was estimated at $ 425 million

October 25, 2016 the Commission has allowed Gazprom to supply more gas to OPAL, and December 26, physical download of OPAL increased to 81% (based on a throughput of 36 billion cubic meters a year), and the total download of the “Nord stream” (losing the gas taps OPAL and NEL) to 97% (based on a throughput of 55 billion cubic meters per year).

27 December, the General Director of the Polish gas company PGNiG Piotr Wozniak said that the Court of the European Union according to the complaint his company has suspended the decision of the European Commission on increased access for Gazprom to the OPAL pipeline.
