Print Deflation per week from 2 to 8 August amounted to 0.1%, from July 26 to August 1 – and 0.1%, according to Rosstat. Thus deflation in Russia marked the second consecutive week. Last time deflation was observed from 6 to 12 September 2011 (- 0.1%). Monthly deflation last recorded in August of 2011 (- 0.2%).
Meanwhile, inflation from 1 January to 8 August was 3.8%, in annual terms by August 8 – 7.1% against 7.2% in July.
The average deflation in the first eight days of August amounted to 0.008% against 0.011% in August 2015 Deflation in the last two weeks due to seasonal reasons, mainly cheaper tomatoes and cucumbers.
Over the past week, fruits and vegetables fell by an average of 3.5%, including tomatoes and cucumbers – by 10.7% and 8.2%, respectively, cabbage – by 4.9%, carrot – by 4.2%, potatoes – by 4.1%. Fish, eggs, rice, pasta and noodles fell 0.1-0.3%.
Sugar rose for the week by 0.6%, caramel, buckwheat and chickens – 0.2-0.4%.
Prices for gasoline and diesel oil rose for the week by 0.1%.
“The continued at a high level in a few weeks the pace of consumer price growth could lead to the preservation of the annual inflation rate of above 7% in August”, – said previously the Central Bank. Basic inflation forecast of the Bank of Russia for 2016 is 5-6%, the Economic Development Ministry forecast – 6.5%.
