ROC asks to give her St. Isaac’s Cathedral – BBC

Petersburg Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church has confirmed that filed an application for the transfer of her gratuitous use of the building of St. Isaac’s Cathedral. This TASS said the head of the communications sector in the information department of the diocesan Natalia Rodomanova.

«Diocese was really sent the request to return for free use of the building of St. Isaac’s Cathedral, in accordance with the current legislation”, – she said.

Director of the Museum “St. Isaac’s Cathedral” Nikolai Burov said earlier that he was on vacation and not aware of the request. The press service of the Committee of Property Relations of St. Petersburg reported that such treatment have been reported, if available, will be considered in due course.

According to the deputy of the Legislative Assembly of Maxim Reznik, the information on the application of the ROC came to him from the “sources, quite competent.” He also said that he was going to initiate the consideration of this matter at the meeting of the permanent commission for education, culture and science.

St. Isaac’s Cathedral and Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, Sampson and the Smolny Cathedral is part of the national monument and museum are owned by the city.
