Media: Turkish talks and the Russian Federation on “Turkish Stream” suspended – RIA Novosti

MOSCOW, July 30 – RIA Novosti / Prime. The negotiations between Turkey and Russia on the construction of the gas pipeline “Turkish Stream” suspended due to lack of key agreements for Ankara discount on Russian gas, according to Reuters referring to representatives in official circles in Turkey.

In February, the Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said that Turkey received a discount of 10.25% in the volume of 28-30 billion cubic meters of gas supplied from Russian Federation. However, an official document has not yet been signed.

Earlier it was reported that “Gazprom” has agreed to give a discount on the Turkish Botas gas 10.25%, but the parties have yet to sign the corresponding agreement. Deputy Chairman of the Board of “Gazprom” Alexander Medvedev said that the document will be signed before the end of June. Around the same period, the Russian Federation and Turkey had to sign an intergovernmental agreement on the gas pipeline project “Turkish stream.”

obstacles in the way of signing the agreement on the construction of the pipeline is that Russia insists on the construction of four gas pipeline strings with a total capacity of 63 billion cubic meters per year, according to Reuters. Ankara agreed to the construction of one of the four branches necessary for Turkey itself. As noted, the “Gazprom” declined to comment.

Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak said yesterday that the timing of the construction of the gas pipeline “Turkish Stream” may move if the process is delayed the signing of the intergovernmental agreement between Russia and Turkey. “Gazprom” planned to begin construction of the pipeline at the end of June, but in early July, “Gazprom” reported that the company-operator of construction of the offshore section of the pipeline has terminated the contract with the Italian Saipem on sea laying of the first line because of the inability to reach agreement on many workers and commercial matters .

At the end of July, it was reported that the Ministry of Energy of Turkey has sent a draft intergovernmental agreement on the construction of “the Turkish stream,” waiting for a response from the Turkish side.
