Bank of Russia uses the dual-currency basket to mitigate the impact of sharp fluctuations in exchange rates. When the volume of accumulated interventions of the Central Bank on one of the boundaries of the corridor up to $ 350 million, the boundaries of the corridor are automatically shifted by 5 cents.
As recalled by RIA “Novosti”, this fall Rouble is experiencing another round of decline, losing positions on the back of high geopolitical risks and falling oil prices. As a result, the regulator in early October once again began to conduct foreign exchange intervention, increasing border cross-currency corridor. At the beginning of 2014 the boundaries of the corridor were at 33,05-40,05 rubles.
The Bank of Russia in the transition to a floating exchange rate is going up to 2015 to cancel the exchange rate corridor in the current form. At the same time control is not going to just abandon the currency interventions, but plans to carry them out with sharp exchange rate fluctuations with the threat of undermining financial stability.
