Russia approved a draft agreement with Pakistan on the gas pipeline “North-South” – RBC

Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree, according to which is approved for the signing of a draft agreement between the governments of Russia and Pakistan on cooperation in the construction of gas pipeline “North – South”. This was reported on the government website.

The aim of the agreement is to “create favorable conditions for the construction of the pipeline” in the Pakistani city of Karachi to Lahore, said in a statement.

To supervise and co-ordinate the implementation of agreements will be the Ministry of Energy of Russia and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources of Pakistan.

It is assumed that the Pakistani side would provide the right to use the land required for the construction of a gas pipeline, and the execution of research and work related to the definition of the route of the pipeline route .

The agreement is valid for 25 years and provides the possibility of automatic renewal for five-year periods, underlined in the message.

Earlier, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan’s foreign policy Tariq Fatemi said that Islamabad is important that Russia is able to help Pakistan in the sectors of electricity generation and energy. According Fatemi, Russia “has the appropriate specific skills, expertise and experience.”
