Medvedev has promised not to engage in total control of food prices – To yuga.ru

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that the government does not intend to engage in total control of food prices, “Interfax”.

“The total regulation of food prices is impossible in the modern world” , – Medvedev said at a meeting with the business community in the framework of the investment forum in Sochi.

He recalled that during the Soviet era price controls always lead to shortages.

As reported YuGA.ru, evening of August 6, Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a Decree “On the application of certain special economic measures to ensure the security of the Russian Federation” and the August 7th Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev has signed a a government decree to impose an embargo on a number of categories of food from the EU, USA, Australia, Canada and Norway.

Within one year for import into the country prohibited: cattle meat (fresh, chilled and frozen); pork (fresh, chilled or frozen); Meat and edible offal of poultry (fresh, chilled or frozen); meat salted, in brine, dried or smoked; Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates; milk and milk products; Vegetables, edible roots and tubers; fruit and nuts; Sausages and similar products of meat, meat offal or blood and food preparations based thereon; finished products, including cheese and curd based on vegetable fats; milk-products and products based on vegetable fats.

In late August, the deputies of the Duma faction of the Communist Party, led by Gennady Zyuganov, the Russian government offered to provide the right to set limits for trade margins on food.
