On September 3 come into force restrictions on the purchase of a number of foreign-made products for state and municipal needs. The relevant government decree published last week.
According to the document, limits are set on the public procurement of imported fish and canned fish, seafood, beef, pork, poultry meat and meat by-products, butter, cheese, rice and sugar, and as table salt, powdered and condensed milk.
The decision of the Cabinet to have the opportunity to purchase similar products from suppliers in Russia or the countries of the Eurasian economic Union (EAEC), and noted that “tolerance limit these foods in the for purchases for state and municipal needs will contribute to the development of food production in Russia and the EAEC ».
Earlier, the government imposed on the purchase limits for state and municipal needs of non-food products, including light industry, automobiles and other engineering products.
Food embargo on EU countries, USA, Canada, Australia and Norway was introduced in August, 2014. Later restrictions also extended to Albania, Montenegro, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Ukraine. In early July 2016 the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev signed a decree on the extension of prodembargo until the end of 2017.
