In five years the number of Russians who use only cash, cut in half, and those who are paying only bank cards, was three times as much, the newspaper “Vedomosti” , citing data from the international payment MasterCard system.
During the year the share of people in the country who pay only the purchase of bank cards rose from 11% to 15%, and the proportion of those who use to pay only cash, has fallen from 54% to 38%.
About 59% of Russians are now paying the purchase of bank cards more than once a week.
Most often, the bank card used for purchases in large hypermarkets and supermarkets, online shops and online outlets format “near the house.”
The main reasons for the popularity of “plastic” Russians call the convenience, speed of service, security and opportunity to get a discount or a bonus.
This trend is confirmed by the Central Bank data, the newspaper said. Thus, the number of payments with bank cards increased by 27.8% in 2015, and cash flow from operations with bank cards increased by 11.9%.
Representatives of banks also confirms the growing popularity of non-cash payment, noting that improved financial literacy, developing acquiring network, payroll services, loyalty programs.
