The IMF extended the powers of the head of the Fund, Christine Lagarde, for five years – RBC

The IMF Board has extended the powers of Christine Lagarde as head of the Fund for a further five years. The statement published on the official website of the IMF.

The new deadline Lagarde will start on July 5 this year. Election of the Managing Director held unopposed, she was the only nominated candidate. Russia, the United States and some other countries previously announced support for her candidacy.

The Dean of the Board of Directors of the International Monetary Fund Alexei Mozhin was quoted as saying in a statement, he said that in making this decision, the Council appreciated the strong and wise leadership Lagarde during her first term on the background of the troubled situation in the world economy.

Christine Lagarde was appointed Managing Director of the IMF in the summer of 2011, succeeding Dominique Strauss-Kahn. Lagarde became the first woman to head the IMF. Prior to her appointment she was the Minister of Economy and Finance of France.
