Russia increased its arms sales to Europe by 264% – Rosbalt.RU

 The US and Russia in 2011-2015 retained its position of the largest arms suppliers in the world. This is stated in a new report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) on worldwide arms exports.

 

 According to experts, over the previous five-year period the volume of arms trade for the period increased by 14%. The leader on arms exports were the United States (33% of total world exports), Russia takes the second place (25%). Also in the top five exporters were China, France and Germany.

 

 On the whole, Russia has increased its exports by 28% compared with the previous five-year period. However, as analysts note, the volume of sales in 2014 and 2015 was lower than in 2011, 2012 and 2014.

 

 In 2011-2015, the Russian Federation has put the weapon 50 countries. The largest buyer of Russian arms, India is – it had 39% of Russia’s exports, followed by China and Vietnam (11%)

 At the regional level, the main buyers of steel in Asia and Oceania (68% of all Russian arms exports), followed by Africa (11%), Middle East (8.2) and Europe (6.4%). At the same time the supply of arms in Europe in 2011-2015 increased by 264% over the previous period – mainly due to the sale of weapons to Azerbaijan (4.9% of Russia’s total exports compared to 0.7% in 2006-2010 ).
