The Greek parliament approved the holding of a referendum on the debt – Russian newspaper

The deputies of the Greek Parliament supported the idea of holding a referendum on the country’s public debt. Athens will decide whether you need financial assistance from the European Union under the terms of more austerity, or it should be abandoned.

The vote is scheduled for July 5. According to RIA Novosti, the decision was made by deputies from 179 to 300.

Earlier, the Eurogroup has refused to renew the program of aid to Greece. Lenders have condemned the decision of the Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras to hold a referendum on the program of fiscal austerity in exchange for financial assistance.

June 30 is the deadline for Athens, where agreement can be reached with the creditors. Then the program of financial support will cease to operate, and the Greeks did not get 7.2 billion euros. The same day, Greece needs to repay the next tranche of the IMF loan.
