->

Athens, 28 June 2015, 12:35 – REGNUM After the announcement of the intention to hold a referendum in Greece on the issue of financial assistance from the European Union, citizens of this country rushed to withdraw their savings from the accounts. This was on Sunday, June 28 to local media.

The negotiations in Greece and the “troika” of creditors (ECB, EC, IMF) lasted a few months. The program of so-called financial aid to Greece, which is in fact driven the country into a debt loop, from which it is impossible to escape economic methods, began in 2008. Then Greece “rescued” by default foisting new loans, for which she had to pay squeezing money out of the economy austerity measures. The same pattern was repeated in 2010.

The austerity measures and efforts to achieve economic growth in Greece nor to no avail. The country sank further into debt. Athens must now its creditors € 240 billion. In Greece, there is no way to pay even the interest on these loans, not to mention their full repayment. In the last election in Greece came to power left party SYRIZA, led by Alexis Tsipras.

At first, the new government tried to negotiate with creditors on an acceptable version of maturing debt. However, all of these options for Greece is actually fatal – but to further cut back on social services and raise taxes to take money nowhere. In the six years of austerity cuts and raising similar happened a few times.

Then Tsipras tried to demand reparations from Germany for the occupation of Greece by Nazi Germany during the Second World War. To achieve reparations failed.

Not so long ago Tsipras failed to reach an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin about the fate of Greece in the Russian gas pipeline project, “Turkish stream.” Money for the participation in this project is not Greece, but Putin promised to around € 2 billion in the form of financing of the Greek private and public companies that will build the continuation of “the Turkish stream».

This project promises to Greece in the form of defined benefits constant currency revenue from fees for the transit of gas, as well as access to relatively cheap Russian energy resources to help run the Greek economy.

The European Union and the United States tried to put pressure on Greece as they previously pressured to Bulgaria, and then she He abandons the “South Stream”, but the Greeks until the pressure and succumbed to reaffirm their commitment to cooperation with Russia.

The program of financial aid to Greece from the European Union expires on 30 June. By that time, Greece must make a payment to the IMF to repay its debts. The amount of the payment order of € 1,8 billion but this money is not in Athens.

«troika” of creditors has proposed once again to “help” Greece and give her a loan more money to drive them further into debt to Athens pit. At the same time the terms of these funds again perform austerity measures. Greece needs to repeal tax breaks to increase VAT to reduce pensions. The Greek Government points out that these measures are not possible. The government has even called the proposal the “troika”, “Armageddon.” Lenders are going to make concessions, and refusing to take a tough stand, or to agree to their terms and conditions, or financial aid program will be discontinued and will be a question of a Greek exit from the euro zone.

Tsipras went to extraordinary progress. He declared the country’s referendum on whether to accept the creditors and get help on these terms, conditions, or reject and refuse from the help. This will be the first referendum in Greece over the past 40 years. Tsipras himself calls the people to say a resounding “no” to the creditors, who have put forward conditions that degrade the Greeks.

After news of a referendum in Greece began some panic among the population. Citizens rushed to withdraw their savings from the accounts. Before ATM formed a queue, local media noted that devastated ATMs and members of the Greek parliament, which ratified the proposed referendum Tsipras.

As a result of a plebiscite held on July 5.
