Gref: Sberbank is not going to work in the Crimea because of sanctions – RBC

Sberbank of Russia is not going to work in the Crimea because of the sanctions, said at the annual general meeting of shareholders of the President Chairman of the Board of Sberbank German Gref.

“While such plans is prohibitive in terms of sanctions. We are not going to work in this region”, – he said, Tass quoted him as saying.

Gref also said that Sberbank of Russia expects to soon withdraw its Turkish “daughter” DenizBank from the EU sanctions. He acknowledged that imposed by the US and EU sanctions have had a serious negative impact on the bank’s activities, “especially in Turkey, where we immediately began to lose the competition.” “Turkish Bank fell under the sanctions, frankly, by chance. In all logic, he should not fall under the sanctions”, – he said.

According to Gref, the bank managed to bring before the Turkish bank of the US sanctions list . However, in Europe, this problem is not solved yet.

Gref said that the bank’s management is currently under negotiation with all the countries of the EU for the removal of DenizBank from the EU sanctions.
