ROME, June 10 – RIA Novosti. Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Rome, where he will meet with Italian President Sergio Mattarello and meet with Pope Francis, but in the end of the visit to meet with the ex-prime minister Silvio Berlusconi.
The Russian leader arrived in Rome for half a day from Milan, where together with the Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi opened the National Day of Russia at the exhibition “EXPO-2015″.
In addition, parties to a bilateral meeting discussed cooperation between Russia and Italy, the issue of sanctions was raised in the context of work on the project. Putin and Renzi also discussed during the talks international issues, particularly the situation in Syria, Iraq, Egypt and Libya, and the fight against terrorism.
It is expected that during the meeting with the Pope Francis sides will discuss the situation in Ukraine. After the official events the Russian president will meet with his longtime friend – former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
