ATHENS, June 21. The Greek authorities submitted new proposals to creditors in an attempt to avoid a default. This at a press conference with Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said French President Francois Hollande.
“Greece has sent the European Commission and, I think institutions such as the International Monetary Fund and European Central Bank – its new proposal, “- he said the French leader, reports Reuters.
It is expected that after reviewing the proposals received will be negotiated.
Meanwhile, the German parliament opposed to concessions Greece, in order to preserve it in the euro zone. Bavarian politicians from the Christian Social Union (CSU, is a coalition with a party led by Angela Merkel, “Christian Democratic Union”) was told his position to the German Chancellor.
“If the EU would allow Athens to go to his intransigence, we can bury the euro. Either Greece declared its readiness to find a reasonable solution (the debt problems), a country should leave the euro zone. The EU is able to cope with the consequences of her choice, “- said a member of the finance committee of the Bundestag Hans Michelbach of the CSU.
He called on the European Central Bank to immediately stop lending to Greece, as the government has refused to fulfill its existing commitments.
Another CSU, Hans-Peter Friedrich, also called Merkel’s tougher stance. “There is a shameful spectacle: the 27 EU countries have allowed Alexis Tsipras (Prime Minister) lead them by the nose,” – he said.
Earlier, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the chairman of the European Council, Donald Tusk warned the international community against excessive expectations. “The summit on Monday could be a summit of solutions only when these decisions will set the stage. If until such a framework is not incorporated, it will be a summit consultations”, – said Merkel.
For his part, Tusk said that the crisis summit in Greece on June 22 will not be the “last step”: “We need to get rid of illusions about the fact that the summit supposedly there is some magic formula”.
If Greece will not be able to negotiate with creditors to provide new financial assistance in exchange for the reforms, the country will have to declare bankruptcy. Not ruled out the probability of a Greek exit from the eurozone. Athens expect to receive international assistance in the amount of 7.2 billion euros. Thus by the end of June, they will have to pay 1.6 billion euros to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
Thousands of Greeks in Athens this week staged a demonstration under the slogan “We are still in Europe”.
