Prosecutor General of Armenia initiated a criminal case in connection with the protest action in Yerevan. This was reported in the press-service agency, reports Armenian News – NEWS.am.
A criminal case was opened under Part 1 of Article 258 of the Criminal Code (hooliganism, violating public order). The article provides for a fine of 50 thousand. AMD or arrest for up to a year.
Protesters carried a three-day sit-in at Freedom Square since June 19, and on June 22 headed to the presidential administration. The protesters demanded to cancel the new tariffs for electricity. The demonstration was attended by thousands of people.
The police dispersed the rally and detained with water cannons 237 people, their fate is still unknown.
