MOSCOW, February 2 – RIA Novosti. United Workers’ Union the steel industry (United Steelworkers union, USW) announced the US’s biggest strike since 1980 – it is assumed that take part in the action before the 3800 nine employees of oil facilities in the United States.
According to the union, workers nine oil facilities in Texas, California, Kentucky and Washington may stop working on Sunday. It is expected that participation in the action will take up to 3,800 people, but the exact number of strikers is not yet known, reports the publication USA Today.
According to the report USW, refinery employees were forced to declare a strike after a representative of the association failed to reach agreement on changes in the conditions of work with the company Shell. Negotiations with oil companies began on January 21. Shell refused to accept the union and suspended the negotiations.
“Shell refused to give us a counter offer and left the negotiating table. We had no other choice but to declare the suspension of work” – quoted in the statement of the president of the union speech Leo Gerard Association (Leo W. Gerard).
The Joint Trade Union of the steel industry (United Steelworkers union, USW) represents 65 refineries and more than 230 other oil and petrochemical facilities in the US. Association is committed to improving safety conditions at oil facilities and reducing the number of temporary workers.
