MOSCOW, December 7 – RIA Novosti. controlled nuclear chain reaction on Sunday successfully launched a new reactor, the third unit of Rostov NPP. Then the reactor was successfully launched at the minimum controlled power level, said on Sunday the electricity division of the state corporation “Rosatom” concern “Rosenergoatom”.
The minimum controlled power level – a level sufficient to control the self-sustaining nuclear chain reaction controlled.
The nuclear industry in such cases, so to speak, that the reactor “began to live.” Thus, passed one of the most important stages in the preparation of nuclear power for operation.
“start managing a chain reaction: regular ionization chambers recorded neutron flux corresponding to the minimum controllable level,” – said in a statement.
Now, experts will conduct a series of tests, then the program of physical start of the third power is completed. First criticality was launched on 14 November ahead of schedule for a few months, then in the first reactor was charged with cassettes with nuclear fuel. Energy start (start of power generation) unit is planned for later this year.
Rostov NPP – branch “Rosenergoatom”. It is the southernmost of the Russian nuclear power plant and one of the largest energy companies in the South of Russia. The station is located on the shore of the reservoir Tsimlyansk 13.5 kilometers from Volgodonsk, provides 40% of electricity production in the Rostov region. From Rostov NPP electricity is also supplied to the Volgograd Region, Krasnodar and Stavropol regions.
At the station now operates two power units with VVER-1000 with an installed capacity of 1,000 MW. There is a construction of the 4th unit. The third unit of the plant designed and constructed a combined engineering company JSC “NIAEP” – JSC “Atomstroyexport”.
