US President Barack Obama in the framework of the Nuclear Security Summit in Washington, DC held a meeting with the leader of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan, according to the White House on Friday.

Obama expressed Erdogan condolences the terrorist attack in the city of Diyarbakir and “reiterated US support for Turkey’s security and the common fight against terrorism.” The leaders also discussed the fight against the group “Islamic state”, reports RIA “Novosti”.

On Tuesday, Erdogan said he plans to meet with his US counterpart Barack Obama during his visit to USA. But on Monday, it was reported that Obama has no plans in the near future a meeting with the Turkish leader.

Also, the Wall Street Journal reported that US President Barack Obama rejected Erdogan’s invitation to join him at the opening of Ankara-funded mosque in Maryland.

Erdogan’s visit to the United States began on 29 March. His visit will last until 4 April.

Meanwhile, on Thursday in Washington Erdogan clashed protection and demonstrators who oppose the Turkish leader’s policy, although it was reported earlier that the Turkish leader’s bodyguards did not dare to use force.

Later that same day, the Turkish president’s bodyguards did not let journalists in his speech at the University of Washington.

Financial Times noted in this context that the attempt to fix the image of Erdogan his government was undermined.
