The American company Cargill stopped the work of one of the largest malt houses in Russia, learned “Vedomosti”. The cause of the incident has been falling demand for malt, which experts link with the fall of the beer market

The American producer and trader of agricultural Cargill stopped production on the malt house in the city of Efremov, Tula region, learned “Vedomosti”. This malt is one of the largest in Russia.

To stop the production of the newspaper told the head of a large agricultural holding and fellow industry association. Cargill spokesman confirmed this information. According to him, work is suspended since the beginning of this year because of falling demand.

Most of the staff were working malthouse Yefremov, specified in Cargill. The company still there produces starch and sweeteners. Some people were transferred to other production. The company notes that if the situation with low demand changes, Cargill is ready to resume operation of the complex.

The company has built a malthouse stoiomstyu $ 50 million and a capacity of 100 000 tonnes per year in 2003 on the basis of already owned by Cargill glyukozopatochnogo plant. As the newspaper notes, the beer market, one component of which is a malt, is continuously growing from 1996 to 2008. However, after raising excise it began to decline.

According to the director of the analytical center “Sovecon” Andrey Sizov, malt production fell because of the beer market contraction. Thus, the plant “Russian malt” the country’s largest producing 200 000-250 000 tonnes per year with a capacity of 500,000 tons, said company owner Cyril Minovalov. He also tied the underutilization of the fall in beer sales

Russia’s largest brewer -. “Baltika” ( “daughter” of Carlsberg) in 2015 bought 265 800 tons of malt, said its spokesman. This is less than last year. Presumably, the “Baltika” beer production will fall by 5-10% this year. The same can be reduced and the consumption of malt.
