Moscow dropped out of the top ten most expensive cities for foreigners to live according to the international consulting firm Mercer Human Resource Consulting, according to the Russian edition of the magazine Forbes . For the year, the Russian capital dropped in the ranking from 9th to 50th place. Two years ago, Moscow ranked the second line in the list.
St. Petersburg took the 152 th place in the list of the most expensive places in the world, down from 13th position a year ago.
Rating Mercer evaluates 214 cities on five continents in more than 200 items, including accommodation, transport, food, clothing, household goods and entertainment, starting with the United States of typical basket of consumer goods and services of high quality.
As a starting point, analysts take the cost of staying in New York and compare them with the rest of the city, taking into account currency fluctuations, inflation and other factors.
The most expensive city, as well as last year, became the capital of Angola, Luanda. Second place went to Hong Kong, which last year took third place, while the third – Zurich (in the past year – 5th). The top 10 also included Singapore, Geneva, Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul, Bern and N’Djamena.
Tokyo, which for several years firmly among the top ten in this year ranked 11th.
The cheapest Western expats cities of the world experts in this year’s Mercer called the Kyrgyz Bishkek (207 th), the Namibian Windhoek (206) and Pakistani Karachi (205). In addition, the top ten were the cheapest Tunis, Skopje (Macedonia), Banjul (Gambia), Minsk, Cape Town, Managua and Tbilisi.
