Almost 23 million. People in Russia live below the poverty line – New Kuzbass

According to Rosstat, the number of Russians with incomes below the subsistence minimum in the first quarter of 2015 increased by 3.1 million compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 22.9 million people, according to Rosbalt.

The level of poverty in the January-March 2015 increased to 15.9% versus 13.8% in the first quarter of last year, when incomes below the subsistence level were 19.8 million Russians.

According to the Federal State Statistics Service, a significant increase in poverty in the first quarter of this year was due to a significant increase in the size of a living wage as a result of high inflation.

The value of the living wage in Russia in the first quarter of 2015 increased from 7688 rubles to 9662 rubles per person month.

Per capita income in the first quarter accounted for more than 25 thousand. rubles, which is 11% more than in the first quarter of 2014 and 23.7% less than the fourth quarter of 2014.

The report notes that because of the limited budgetary resources in 2015-2016 the additional support of the poor and the vulnerable population of the Russian Federation is likely to be less significant than in 2008-2009. Indexation of salaries in the public sector in 2015 will not be held, with pensions and other transfers decreased in real terms.
