The Syrian army crossed the border province of Raqqa in the direction of the same city, which became a stronghold of terrorist group “Islamic state”, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Earlier, a military source Sputnik Agency reported that the Syrian army continued its offensive in the direction of the city of Raqqah and came to the borders of the province in the north of the country, reports RIA “Novosti”.

During the offensive, the military supported by Russian VKS took the strategically important village of Abu Ilyadzh and proceeded to Al-Tabka, the source said. From Al-Tabka military are now separated by only 30 kilometers, he said.

It became known yesterday that the Syrian army launched a new offensive in the direction of the city of Raqqa – the so-called capital of the terrorist group “Islamic state” (IG) in Syria.

Meanwhile, the Kurdish forces also conduct an operation to release Raqqa, which is considered the “capital” of the IG group. “The democratic forces of Syria” is almost completely surrounded the city, cutting off militants from the points of supply.

The Kurds say that Raqqah – the only major city in Syria, which is under the control of the “Islamic state.” His release would deal a blow to militants strongest reputation that will lead to an outflow of a large number of groups of fanatical Islamists.
