. According to the Economic Development Ministry, Russia’s GDP contracted by 0.7% in April, in May – about 0.5%. The Minister Alexei Ulyukayev said that the GDP dynamics will come to zero by mid-year, and since the third quarter of Russia’s economy may show growth, albeit very slowly. At the same time the Russian industry in May, in annual terms accelerated its growth – it amounted to 0.7% after rising 0.5% in April; was 1.2% in January-May, industrial production also showed a positive trend, having increased by 0.1%, Rosstat reported.

“Qualitatively, the May statistics are not as optimistic as we would like, but it is not bad”, -. Vedev told reporters. He added that he “strongly disagrees” with the fact that in the Russian Federation is now deepening recession.
Earlier, on the basis of the May statistics of HSE experts in the next report suggested, the deepening recession in the Russian economy. Despite the rise in oil prices to 45-48 dollars to 30 dollars at the beginning of the year, the fall in domestic demand in the second quarter would be even more serious than the first, the analysts wrote. At the same time import volumes stabilized says that expect in the near future to fill the importation of goods is no longer necessary, it does not have to rely on the positive side in export demand, they noted.
Analysts are inclined to believe that the decline in GDP in 2016 could exceed 1.5%. In this case the base of Economic Development forecast assumes GDP contraction this year is only 0.2%. And the Bank of Russia in the baseline scenario expects a decline in GDP of Russia in 2016 to 1,3-1,5%.
