Russian Prime Minister commented on the situation around the gas supplies to the EU in the future. Thus, Medvedev said that the current agreement on the transit of natural gas through Ukraine to Europe will expire first in January 2020. If the terms of the new contract will not be beneficial to Russia, we are not going to sign it, the prime minister said in an interview with the Slovenian edition DELO.
«The situation is developing in such a way that the building projections of gas transit through Ukraine meaningless occupation. In the future, we are afraid that our Ukrainian colleagues will offer very unfavorable conditions, resulting in “Gazprom” will cease cooperation with “Naftogaz” – said Medvedev real situation.
In case of refusal of Ukraine to renew the contract today with 10:00 1 January 2020 Russia will have no rights to energy transit through Ukraine.
Premier of the Russian Federation said confidently, that Russia is interested in supplying Europe with energy resources. However, not a serial Brussels calls into question the EU’s desire to cooperate. This proves that the situation with the “South Stream”. The EU signed a contract for its construction, and both sides have invested large sums in the project, and eventually European partners rejected it.
Medvedev hopes for prudence and common economic sense of their European counterparts in the future. The issue of gas transit through the Ukrainian government proposes to solve it through the “Turkish stream.” The new pipeline will provide fuel to the countries of Eastern Europe. It is now resolved almost all the “paper” business around the creation of the object. Turkey gave its consent for the construction of “gas pipeline” in its territory. It remains only to approve the contractor who will undertake the project.
The Russian side hopes that Europe will not repeat the mistakes of both the “South Stream” and the new cooperation between Russia and the EU, bypassing Ukraine will be a success for both sides .
