Merkel and Hollande demanded to convene an emergency summit on Greece – RBC

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande after the publication of the first results of the Greek referendum held a telephone conversation. In it the leaders of the two countries were in favor of convening an extraordinary summit on Tuesday the leaders of the eurozone countries, Reuters reports referring to the press-secretary of the German government.

The interlocutor of agency also stressed that Merkel and Hollande agreed that the referendum should be recognized . Elysee Palace confirmed that the leaders of France and Germany called for the convening of the summit on Tuesday.

According to the agency, the European Council President Donald Tusk later announced to convene an emergency summit of euro zone leaders on Tuesday evening.

Elysee Palace spokesman said that on Sunday evening, after the outcome of the Greek referendum, Hollande held an emergency meeting with his team, as well as with the head of the European Council, Donald Tusk, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker and President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz. Prior to that, Hollande talked on the phone with Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras. Details of the conversation are not.
