Oil and gas sector of the Russian Federation experienced environmental responsibility – Kommersant

Yesterday, the Russian office of WWF and analyst firm Creon presented the results of the rating the environmental efficiency of the energy sector of the Russian Federation. Calculations carried out by national rating agency, using information from public sources. A total sample of analysts were 19 companies – the cut-off point was chosen oil production of 1.5 million tonnes in 2013. Eight of the selected companies were public, four – with foreign participation and nine – without government intervention.

company performance was evaluated by three main parameters: the quality of environmental management, environmental impact and disclosure (transparency). These parameters are divided into 28 criteria by which outputs arithmetic mean score (0.1 to 2). As a result, the leaders were “Surgutneftegas”, “Sakhalin Energy” and “Gazprom”. The three outsiders – “Total PPP”, “Alliance” and “Belkamneft” (see. Chart).

However, according to analysts, leadership in the ranking does not always match the level of environmental efficiency of global best practices. Information public parent companies often available, which can not be said about the “daughter”. For example, “Slavneft” and “Tomskneft” (their own equally “Gazprom Neft” and “Rosneft”) – “Information closed.” The same applies to most of the “daughters” of transnational corporations in the Russian Federation. All in accordance with international standards GRI information is disclosed only 9 out of 19 companies. However, only one of the participants in the rating is the program for the protection of biodiversity, and the component of animal protection plans oil spill found in only 3 of the 19 companies. Statistics breakthroughs pipelines and contaminated land publish only seven of them.

In general, the ranking reveals that the industry is 1 tonne of refined oil and the environment spreads of 0.82 kg. All at the same time in 2013 in Russia produced 523.2 million tons of oil, produced 38.8 million tons of gasoline, 71.5 million tons of diesel and 76.9 million tons of fuel oil. On payments for violation of environmental regulations account for 43% of all royalties companies for the negative impact on the environment.
