on December 27 in Moscow, the Head of Bashkortostan Rustem Khamitov participated in the meeting of the State Council of the Russian Federation, devoted to questions of ecological development in the interests of future generations.

the meeting discussed the role and place of Russia in solving global environmental problems, the main tasks of long-term sustainable development of the country, such as reducing the risks of environmental degradation and resource depletion, the elimination of accumulated environmental damage, introduction of modern clean production technologies, reducing emissions of harmful substances.

Opening the meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that 2017 is the year of ecology. Environmental protection is an important area not only to improve the efficiency of the national economy, but primarily to improve the quality of life of people, the potential of regions.

– the Key issue is the achievement of drastic reduction of emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere, their discharge into water bodies and soil, primarily through technological modernization of industry, implementation of best available technologies, – said the head of state. – Of course, this requires investment, but you need to understand what environmentally friendly technologies is not only a priority, it eventually leads to serious economic gains.

Vladimir Putin has outlined the most urgent environmental problems that need immediate solutions.

– the Situation with poisonous emissions remains extremely poor. Half of the urban population lives in conditions of high level of air pollution. The contribution of vehicles to personal and public ranges from 50 to 90 percent. A significant portion of surface water is estimated today as “dirty” and “extremely dirty”. Seven percent of the residents are not provided with quality drinking water. In almost all regions the tendency to deterioration of soil and land, – said the President of Russia. – If we continue to use half-measures, and refer to the more important task, then by 2050 the emissions of pollutants and greenhouse gases will reach a critical limit, and this means we understand what it means, it means that future generations we will leave the environment unsuitable for life. So you need at least two times to reduce pollution and emissions.

among the other important areas of environmental development Vladimir Putin has called improving the system of ecological information, disposal of production and consumption, the active involvement of citizens and public organizations in the solution of problems of environmental protection.

– No need to hide from the people in their offices. People will definitely want to know and have a right to know and have the right to participate in environmental awareness campaigns and specific measures to improve the quality of life and landscaping in residential areas, parks, squares, – stressed the head of state. – I am sure the credibility of the citizen initiatives, dialogue and partnership with social movements – a very important condition for the formation of high ecological culture in the country.
