a few hours before the launch of the unmanned taxi in San Francisco
Uber will continue testing the unmanned taxi in San Francisco, ignoring the requirement of the American authorities. They believe that the company needs to obtain special permits for the carriage of passengers
the taxi Service Uber has decided to continue the testing of unmanned vehicles in San Francisco even after the warning of the Department of motor vehicles (DMV). It is reported by The Associated Press.
Uber started testing unmanned vehicles on the roads of San Francisco on December 14. For the carriage of passengers the company uses self-driving Volvo cars equipped with 3D cameras. The car also is a driver who can take control in their hands.
However, the authorities insist that the cars are “Autonomous vehicles” that need to obtain special permission to provide a public service. Such a document is needed to cover the cost of insurance and to issue public reports, in the event of an accident.

Vice-President of the Department of advanced technology Uber Anthony Lewandowski, in turn, said that the company did not need permission because behind the wheel sits the driver who is in control.
Lewandowski was wondering why the DMV did not require a special document from Tesla that can accelerate and brake without touching the driver.
In a letter to the DMV, which is in the possession of the Agency, said that the authorities intend to ensure the company fulfil the requirements, otherwise it may lead to legitimate for this case action. The Agency did not explain what specific actions it can take.
In September, Uber launched the unmanned taxi in Pittsburgh. The vehicles are also an engineer and driver. For the carriage of passengers the company uses Ford Fusion hybrid engine, equipped with 3D cameras, GPS and laser sensors to navigate in space.
