Russia from 1 October 2014 introduces a temporary ban on the export from the Russian Federation tanned leather from the skins of bovine (cattle) and horses.
As stated in the decision of the Government said that the ban is introduced before April 1, 2015 and affects “essential for the domestic market,” Russian goods.
Ministry of Economic Development invited to submit for consideration to the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) proposal to ban the use of the other Member States of the Customs Union.
Minpromtorg offered to take this decision earlier. Then said that the project aims to reduce the export of raw materials for the Russian leather industry. Volumes of Russian production in recent years has reduced, which leads to an unjustified increase in prices.
According to RIA Novosti, the volume of the skin in 2013 decreased by 8.8%. From the Russian budget loses more than 1.2 billion, including more than 700 million rubles from the reduction of the tax base. However, the problems in this area are observed not only in Russia. Other countries of the Customs Union (Belarus and Kazakhstan) also lack leather resources, buying raw hides in the Russian Federation.
