In Russia, the deficit of buckwheat, but there is an unhealthy excessive demand which led to its disappearance from store shelves, assured the assistant manager Alex Rosselkhoznadzor Alexeenko.

According to Alexeenko, the country has sufficient stocks of buckwheat and its deficit is observed. The reason is the excessive demand, which will lead to higher prices, as it was more than once in our history. Buckwheat has a very long shelf life, so people just do stocks, – the official said.

Earlier media reported the death of a crop of buckwheat in the Altai region and the sharp rise in prices for these products. People in panic began to sweep the rump from the shelves – just a few days was sold out two-month supply of buckwheat. This in turn was reflected in the price, in some places the price of cereals jumped to 100 rubles per kilogram.

The cases of buying up large batches of buckwheat with a view to its subsequent sale at inflated prices. Therefore, in some major retail chains began to take measures to restrict the sale of cereals “in one hand».

According to the publication NEWSru.com, the price of buckwheat in St. Petersburg increased by 5.2% in Samara region – 17.6 – 20.6%, in the Volgograd region – 9.3%, in Tatarstan – by 14%.

The Ministry of Economic Development Minister explain this rise in prices that the stores sold out all stocks of cereals and buy it from suppliers at higher prices.
