Court punished HP for bribing Russian officials – BBC News

A fine of 58.77 million dollars to pay the Russian division of the American computer company HP for bribing Russian officials to obtain lucrative contracts. This decision on Hewlett-Packard AO (HP Russia) imposed by a court for the Northern District of California.

Representatives of HP Russia pleaded guilty, according to ITAR-TASS. The company violated American law against bribery by natural and legal persons resident in the territory of the United States of a foreign state (FCPA).

Managers American computer companies have recognized that we have created a secret fund of several million dollars. Part of the money from this fund was used to bribe Russian government officials who provided the company a contract worth over 35 million euros.

In April 2014, HP has paid 108 million dollars in criminal and civil penalties for bribery of officials in Russia, Mexico and Poland. At the same time representatives of Hewlett-Packard recognized that bribes to officials in these countries gave it an American company serving units.

The purpose of bribes was to obtain a state contract for office automation software and computer equipment one of the federal departments of Russia in 1999. The contract amount was $ 100 million.
