The leaders of the G7 summit in Japan supported the retention of sanctions against Russia, imposed after the annexation of Crimea. This is stated in the final declaration of the summit, which also focus on the global fight against terrorism, the crisis in Syria and Ukraine.
The two-day summit of the “big seven” countries leaders took the Japanese Ise-Sima national park (Mie Prefecture) on the Pacific coast. The main theme was the problem of the world economy and efforts to ensure that it achieve sustainable development. However, the participants of the meeting parted in the prospects of a repeat of the global crisis, like the one that occurred in 2008.

The leaders of the “Group of Seven” reaffirmed their intention to maintain in force the sanctions against Russia associated with the Crimea. “We can also take additional restrictive measures in order to increase the costs to Russia, if its actions so require,” – said in the declaration.
At the same time, world leaders and stressed the importance of continuing dialogue with Russia “to ensure that it has entered into commitments and norms of international law in order to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable peace settlement of the crisis.”
The sanctions were announced after the referendum quickly, which resulted in the Ukrainian peninsula became part of Russia. Against the background of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine they reconsidered and eventually became sectoral several times, greatly limiting the possibility of attracting finance from abroad for Russian companies.
With regard to the declaration of Ukraine G7 stressed a number of points. Firstly, the need to resolve the crisis by diplomatic means in the Donbas. Secondly, the need for early elections in the separatist-controlled DNR and LNR areas.
A large part is devoted to the declaration on the Middle East issues. Leaders of “Seven” encouraged the parties to the conflict in Syria to adhere to the truce, urging Russia and Iran to put pressure on Damascus in this regard. It expressed concern about the use of these chemical weapons in Syria. “Seven” is also concerned about conducting ballistic missile tests in Iran.
G7 also required to halt nuclear and missile tests by North Korea.
“Seven” emphasized the importance of collective efforts in the fight against terrorism. “We reiterate that it is important for the international community to take further collective and coordinated effort to combat the urgent threat to global security”, – stated in the final declaration.
The participants were also made for the fight against the financing of terrorism and the protection of cultural heritage from the extremists.
The summit adopted a plan to combat terrorism, including the main measures to combat extremism. Action list is divided into three chapters. It notes that the country’s “seven” should “enhance the exchange of information between the relevant authorities.”
It also indicates that countries should increase cooperation in the field of strengthening the control of borders. Among other measures, including the fight against the financing of terrorism and trafficking in cultural property.
Among other topics, the declaration specifies the migration crisis, which has become “the largest since the end of World War II”, the situation in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya and other countries in Africa, Venezuela, nuclear disarmament, human rights and UN reform.
G7 also supported the entry into force of the reform of the IMF quota. G7 leaders agreed on the need for joint action to ensure the growth of the world economy. As stated in the final declaration of the meeting, these measures were named “Summit Initiative Ise-Sima.”
An additional document adopted at the summit in Ise-Sima, was a plan to fight corruption. His approval is associated with the implementation of the principles of sustainable development in the world until 2030. According to the agreement, the parties have committed themselves to act in accordance with the G20 Action Plan and the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to combat erosion of the tax base and output profits (Base Erosion and Profit Shifting – BEPS).
