Socialist Party of Moldova (MDBGS) was established in 1997 and is part of the international political association “Eurasian Socialist Congress” and the International Fund for Alternatives.
Socialist Party is one of the first successors of the Socialist Party of Moldova, established in March 1992.
Doctrine Party – democratic socialism, the motto – “Moldova. Work. Socialism”.
In 1998, the Socialist Party participated in the parliamentary elections, in cooperation with the International Association “Scientists for democracy and socialism” initiated and conducted scientific-practical conference “Sotsializmv the XXI century” on actual problems of the international socialist movement.
In 1999, the party initiated the consolidation of left-wing forces in the composition of the electoral bloc of communists, socialists and farmers participated in the local elections.
In 2001 and 2005, the party contested the parliamentary elections, in the course of the last result has been obtained 5% of the vote, including in Gagauzia – 51,45%.
From 2009 to 2010, Socialist Party refused to participate in three independent parliamentary election campaigns, supporting the Party of Communists (PCRM). In 2011, the party participated in the local elections, to desist from further political support for PCRM.
In 2011 was established the youth wing of the party – the movement “Young Guard”, in 2012 – veteran wing association “Ekitate.”
In 2014 MDBGS organized and hosted three international scientific conferences on the following topics: “The federal government: international experience and prospects of Moldova”, “The Republic of Moldova and its integration prospects: Customs Union or the European Union”, ” Orthodox civilization and the modern world “.
As of July 1, 2014 in the party is over 8000 members in 29 regional organizations in the administrative-territorial units II th level (districts and municipalities).
Chairman of the party is Igor Dodon.
December 1, 2014, at the end of treatment 87.6% of reports on elections to the Parliament of Moldova, held on November 30, the Socialist Party, according to the CEC, retains the lead with 21.61 percent of the vote.
